Required Skills:- Proficient in using multiple types of package managers and understands which one to use in different circumstances.
- Proven experience building scalable WordPress themes to serve multiple types of end users.
- Experience with a SQL/RDBMS solution (our client typically uses MySQL but general database knowledge is mostly transferable)
- Some experience on back end development (ideally PHP or Node)
- Ability to articulate the benefits of when to use a third party plugin versus developing a first party plugin.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to proprietary internal systems that are required to integrate into existing themes.
- Experience modifying the WP Admin for different users and purposes (such as using WordPress as the framework for an app or reporting dashboard).
- Ability to future-proof all code, themes, plugin modifications, etc.
- Understand RESTful API practices and server communication using AJAX/JSON and JavaScript/jQuery.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet various demands of client programming and on-call requirements (very limited).
- Understanding of how to best utilize the Transient API.
- Experience utilizing the WordPress API to stream content into a mobile app.
- Experience with different types of user authentication.
- Experience with security best practices such as data validation.
JOB REQUIREMENTSResponsibilities: - Design and build best-in-class websites, landing promotional pages and microsites.
- Inform management of upcoming browser/device/OS changes or current bugs and outline changes needed to account for them.
- Liaise without external vendors and internal resources to outline and oversee caching strategy that utilizes W3TC to optimize WP theme performance.
- Work to ensure designs are technologically sound.
- Optimize websites to ensure they render consistently in cross-browser environments, with best SEO principles.
- Knowledge of the best practices and limitations of web design (layout widths, typography, image optimization, etc.).
- Document processes and code in a clear, comprehensive and organized manner.
- Provide input to help improve site usability, interface design, architecture, layout and content.
- Provide support for ongoing maintenance of existing websites and be mindful of upcoming plugin upgrades or potential security flaws.
Qualifications: - 2-3+ years of professional experience in design and development for customer-facing websites running on highly customized sites and WordPress themes.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Desire to join a quickly growing team and become a vital part of its growth.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills including strong written and verbal communication in English.
- Strong organizational skills, structured thinking and development methodology.
- Ability to work quickly and patiently as part of a small team growing rapidly.
- Able to take direction while still championing money-making ideas.
- Skills not required but added bonus:
- Experience building, optimizing and supporting Genesis frameworks.
- Experience developing within Laravel framework.
- Experience with IBIS or other CRM platforms are a plus.
- Experience working with SQL databases outside of WordPress.
